Arteriosclerosis develops over a period of years and even decades
The following risk factors encourage arteriosclerosis:
- Smoking
- High blood pressure
- Unfavourable blood lipid levels
- Unhealthy diet and overweight
- Diabetes
- Lack of exercise
- Stress
Age and hereditary predisposition are regarded as factors beyond our control. These factors apart, all other risks can be favourably influenced by a healthy lifestyle (balanced diet, regular exercise, plenty of relaxation and stopping smoking).
